Cabinet approves MoU between India and Bangladesh for fairway development on two rivers
They are Ashuganj-Zakiganj stretch of Kushiyara river and Sirajganj-Daikhawa stretch of Jamuna river
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved MoU between India and Bangladesh for fairway development of Ashuganj-Zakiganj stretch of Kushiyara river and Sirajganj-Daikhawa stretch of Jamuna river in the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route by undertaking necessary dredging jointly by the two countries.
The MoU will considerably reduce the logistics cost of cargo movement to North Eastern India. It will also reduce the congestion through the Siliguri Chicken’s Neck corridor.
Cabinet approves MoU on passenger cruise services on the coastal and protocol routes between India and Bangladesh
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved MoU on passenger cruise services on the coastal and protocol routes between India and Bangladesh for starting regular movement of passengers and tourists in water crafts between the two countries.
The operationalization of this MoU will promote people to people contact and cooperation between the two countries in respect of economic, social and cultural advancement. It will also generate employment opportunities for the people of India and Bangladesh.
Virat Kohli named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016
Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli was honoured as the Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World for the year 2016. Besides, he already has been declared Wisden India Almanack’s Cricketer of the Year for the second time in its 2017 edition. Apart from him, Ellyse Perry from Australia was named for Wisden Leading Woman Cricketer in the World for 2016. The Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World is an annual cricket award selected by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.
TRAI asks Jio to withdraw 3-month offer
Reliance Jio on Thursday decided to withdraw its ‘Jio Summer Surprise’ offer after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) advised the Mukesh Ambani-led firm to withdraw the three-month ‘complimentary’ offer.
On March 31, Reliance Jio, which was expected to charge for its services from April 1, 2017, extended the deadline for buying Jio’s ₹303 plan until April 15, 2017. Subscribers who bought the ₹99 Prime membership till April 15, 2017, with a plan of ₹303 or higher, were eligible for the ‘Jio Summer Surprise’ offer and its subscribers were entitled to get free services for three months, starting April 15.
“Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice, and will be withdrawing the three months’ complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days,” according to a company statement. Customers who have subscribed to the offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer.
Bharti Airtel’s December quarter profits fell to ₹422 crore from ₹1,709 crore in December 2015. Idea Cellular reported a loss of ₹492 crore in the December quarter compared with a profit of ₹693 crore in the same period of the previous year.
Similarly, Reliance Communications posted a loss of more than ₹1,600 crore in the first three quarters and is likely to end FY17 with a net loss.
The Cellular Operators Association of India had said the current tariff war in the market may not be “sustainable for long.”
2017 National conference on Communicating India held in New Delhi
The 2017 National conference on Communicating India was held in New Delhi. It was organized by the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) in collaboration with the India Media Centre, University of Westminster, London, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) with the association of Prasar Bharati. The three main themes of the conference were ‘Telling India’s story to the world’, ‘Communicating via Journalism’ and ‘Dialogue with Diaspora’.
